From a 9–5 Job to Freelance Freedom — Lorna’s Creaitz Story

Lorna smiling as she transitions from her 9–5 job to the freelance freedom she achieved through the Creaitz content writing program

Have you ever felt like your creativity is fading because you’re stuck doing the same thing every day? Like there’s so much more you could do if only you had the right space, people, and push?

That was exactly how Lorna felt before she found the Creaitz content writing program.

She always knew she loved writing, but she didn’t know how to turn that passion into something meaningful.

Then she found Creaitz, a place that didn’t just teach her how to write, but showed her how to use writing to grow, earn, and connect with people who share her dreams.

We had a moment with her, and she shared how the Creaitz content writing program helped her turn her passion into a career she truly loves.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and what you do as a freelance content writer?

My name is Lorna, a strategic content & SEO writer, who uses storytelling to help brands connect to their audience, and sell.

What was your life like before you discovered content writing?

Oof!

Well, I had a job. But I was not using my writing skills, and it bothered me.

It was a job where I had to do the same thing every day.

My creativity felt like it was dying with me, and I hated it.

How did you first hear about Creaitz and their content writing program?

I joined a community, and we got to talking about extra income, soft skills, and how to get them.

Someone then recommended the Creaitz writing program.

I was looking for a way to learn more, so I jumped in!

What made you decide to join the Creaitz content writing program specifically?

I knew how to write English and stories, but that was it.

But I also needed a way to know how to write ‘content’.

There are online courses. But Creaitz really does something to push you to action.

The classes, the assignments, the community, omo you have to activate.

What were you hoping to achieve when you enrolled?

Knowledge and the drive to move.

What was your experience like during the content writing training at Creaitz?

The first program, I loved it.

However, this one that just ended, I could not enjoy it much because I was always busy during class time.

Thank God for recorded classes. But I would have loved to join the live class.

Oh well.

Can you walk us through what you learned in the program that changed everything for you?

The program I attended was in collaboration with Wazoplus – a Rwandan social platform.

I was able to secure a position as a content writer and now earn a good side cash.

It opened my eyes to working with people and showing up online.

And from showing up online, I’ve been able to get gigs in different writing related roles, e.g., as a SEO content writer, social media manager, website copywriter, etc.

It was an amazing experience. Stressful, but amazing.

How did Creaitz teach content writing differently from what you might have expected?

You know how in field teaching when they show you examples and you learn on-site?

That’s the same here.

The founder teaches us while on site and shows us things we wouldn’t usually see.

Example: In the last class she talked about Google plugins that could help us with SEO.

I had never heard of that before.

That goes to show that she shows us what works for her and how it works.

You don’t usually get this knowledge for free.

What specific skills or strategies from the program became game-changers for your writing?

Hmm.

I would say white-spacing.

That might seem small, but it makes so much difference.

I had no idea that clumping sentences together ruined the reading process.

But when she said it, I saw it everywhere.

Now, my content is easily read and understood.

And that’s key.

Secondly, showing up online.

This is not easy at all. But it has so many benefits.

She showed me how growing online can help my brand and open me to job opportunities.

And that is 100% true.

Beyond the technical skills, how did Creaitz prepare you for the freelance world?

It gave me a sort of confidence that I know what I’m doing and I have practiced.

Also, that the community is available to help if possible.

Knowing that I have a community to run back to, is comforting.

How did you transition from completing the program to landing your first freelance clients?

I showed up online like a mad woman.

Mostly on Instagram and Twitter.

(I don’t enjoy LinkedIn, but I’ll force myself😭)

Sharing my knowledge and expertise made me a thought leader in the space – especially on twitter.

As a matter of fact, I started by writing stories – what I knew.

My stories went viral and then, I talked about what I did.

(Maybe I need to get back to writing stories).

Can you share the story of how you got your first content writing job?

A lady sent me a DM on twitter that I was recommended by a mutual friend.

This ‘mutual friend’  had been seeing me talk about SEO on twitter a lot and recommended me.

My flabber was gasted – in a good way.

This just shows that growing online is important.

What role did your Creaitz training play in securing that first opportunity?

The knowledge I got from SEO classes helped a lot, and the white-spacing if you can believe it.

Stakeholders said the content was ‘easier to read’.

I mean yeah, I used simple language for the content.

But I still think the white-space had a big role to play.

How has your freelance career grown since completing the program?

I’ve been able to bag:

I was also able to apply my content writing skills to my old job.

So yeah, Creaitz has helped a lot.

How has the Creaitz community continued to support your freelance journey beyond the program?

OMG. THE COMMUNITY.

From job opportunities to advice.

There are also some crypto things, but I really don’t know what those are.

I hope to understand someday so I can benefit.

What makes Creaitz special compared to other training programs you’ve heard about?

The founder. Sincerely, it’s her.

She is almost always available to help, with her YouTube videos, her knowledge, and the job offers she brings.

She is amazing, really.

I just hope it’s not stressful for her.

Looking at where you are now as a successful freelancer, how do you feel about your Creaitz journey?
